The Eastwoods neighborhood is adjacent to the University of Texas at Austin which has an enrollment of over 50,000 students, faculty and staff. Even with the University's excellent shuttle bus system, it is still necessary for some to drive their cars to school and park close to campus. In the past, that created parking issues for the neighborhoods surrounding the University. Residents often had no place to park in the street - even in front of their own homes. With the narrowness of central Austin's older streets, emergency service vehicles (fire trucks and ambulances) found it difficult to navigate in those congested neighborhoods.
At the request of those neighborhoods, the City of Austin created an on-street resident permit-parking plan. This plan designates certain streets as resident permit-parking only on Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. You can see these permit-only parking signs throughout the neighborhood.
New permits are available every year at the beginning of August but you may pre-order your permits and, once the new permits arrive, they will be mailed to you.
A temporary permit will be given to new permit holders. The previous year's permits are good until August 31st.
